Description:
The chang is a jaw-harp found in Afghanistan and it is a member of the aerophone family of musical instruments. The chang consists of a single lamellaphone or tongue, both the frame and tongue are hand forged from iron. These type of jaw harp are quite ornate in colourful hand painted patterns. One should be careful of these types of metal jaw-harps, the metal lamellaphone when it is played could strike your teeth. In playing the jaw harp the mouth encloses over the circular frame, thus completing a resonance chamber. The timbre of the panji is quite rich and deep.
