Description:
The dan moi is an aerophone that is a part of the large jaw-harp
family. It is traditionally played amongst the Meo, Hmong or Muong
people. Until recently this jaw harp is now played by the Viet people
them selves and other ethnic groups. The name dan moi translates into
"instrument of the lips". Originally the dan moi has been hand carved
from bamboo. Today the dan moi is made in factories and is widely sold
as a "tourist" instrument. Traditional danmoi are a lot more thinner
and flexible currently modern danmoi are a lot more durable.
