Description: The Khol, is a double sided percussion instrument (drum) Indigenous to the region of Manipur, located North east of India, clsoe to the borders of Myanmar (Burma) and Southern China. This instrument is unique to this area though many drums of this type are found through out India on the whole. As you see with the tabla the Khol impliments a tenioning system' in this case that is a mix of iron and

The tenion of the drum is achieved also by chords made from animal hide which keep the drum-skins (of live animal hyde) taught. This drum is tuned slightly (not according to actual pitch) but when played the drum does produce two indavidual "notes".
