Type: Aerophone, fipple-type flute (like the fipple on a recorder).

Region: Peru, Andean mountains and much of Peru in regional forms of the pito.

Description: The Pito is a "fipple-type" or "recorder like" flute; usually having 6 or 7 holes. the first hole is often added as a thumb hole. There is several sizes of pito, the name pito has its origins in Spanish, but the flute its self is Indigenous in origins. Traditional musical combinations are like the 'Tarka and Bombo", or "Pito and Tinya" or other similar percussion. Often in Andean string bands the pito is added along with the kena, guitar, charango, mandolin, bombo ETC.
