Introduction: For those who are un-aware of other instruments out side of guitar music. This is a good place to start looking. There will not only by definition with research quality information. There will be tunings, availability and cost information of the particular instruments available.
This page is the focus of this site is to promote the use, development, categorization and preservation of ethnic, world and other types indigenous instruments. In the focus on this page also relates to the studies of African musical stringed instruments, South American musical stringed instruments and of course Asian musical stringed instruments. The instruments will be categorized in the following arrangements through geographical order by region.
Since there is many ethnic regions and new countries forming each year I will try to fill in the gaps as much as possible. The use of this information on this whole site is strictly research intended. I would like to see more focus and awareness of these wonderful stringed instruments asides the mass marketing attempts on the guitar.
I my self as a musician am a guitarist although that is not the focus of my music. My focus is to educate people of other instruments, traditions and genre's of music involved in the global village of music what we now call "world music". As a musician I try to learn much of the local or indigenous musical system as possible and I adapt the traditions as a sound scape in order for me to develop and preserve the traditions through the research I conduct. Which, is usually in the stringed instrument field of music in general.
