Name: Wot
Type: Circular pan-pipes > Aerophone.
Region: Thailand > South East Asia
Source: Two sources, one given by a friend of mine and the other acquired @ the African Market (now out of buisness).
Description:
The wot is a unique aerophone in which is a panpipe though in circular construction. The wot is a unique form of pan-flute or panpipe in comparison to other panpipes such as the sikus, antara, rondador (South American panpipes and the Romanian Nai panpipes). This form of panpipe is found in the Isaan region located in North Eastern Thailand, although in today's economy this instrument is often sold as a tourist-instrument. The musician or player holds the panpipe in between his hands and then rotates the instrument to produce different pitches while blowing downwards into the pipe thus producing the tone.
